Salty Ginger-Ade

It’s January and Pinks and his best friend Piper have decided they are drying out after the holidays. (Scarlett refuses to give up her wine—for obvious reasons—and Vance claims his body is already a temple.) For all of his Dry January customers Harry the Bartender has researched tasty alternatives to the hard stuff. He says with this one you won’t even miss the booze. (I’ll be the judge of that, but I do enjoy anything ginger beer related so this author is intrigued. By the way, ginger beer does not contain alcohol and I like the Goslings brand best.)

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. freshly squeeze lime juice
  • 1 pitted Medjool date
  • pinch of fine sea salt
  • pinch of ground cumin
  • 6 oz. ginger beer
  • mint sprig

Instructions:

Combine lime juice, date, sea salt and cumin in a shaker. Let sit for 5 minutes, then muddle until the date is pulverized. Add ice and shake until well-chilled. Then pour unstrained into a tall glass. Top with ginger beer and stir well to combine. Garnish with the mint sprig.
